OPPORTUNITY
Posted on27. Apr, 2010 by Douglas Richardson.
Opportunity: “a good chance for advancement or progress.”
As I continue on my Social Media journey and am creating more of a presences on the Internet, it seems that I am getting more and more opportunity? Now as the definition above states: “a good chance for advancement or progress”. What I am wondering is this a good chance for advancement or progress for me or the person that is offering the opportunity? It seems that I am bombarded daily with emails and webinar invitations from Facebook, to the latest and greatest opportunity, that is either going to change my life or make my business run on autopilot and make my life easier? I am sure you can relate.
As I have said in other posts, I have started several of my own businesses and have had success and failure in doing so. One of the biggest things that I have learned over the years is that you must do your due diligence, before perusing that Opportunity. In the present day that can mean from joining the latest and greatest online business opportunity to buying a software package that is going to bring you a flood of new leads. One of our biggest triggers to purchasing some thing is our emotions. Most sales are made because we begin to think from a emotional stand point rather than a rational mind set. For example “if you join my new business opportunity today you will not only be part of the greatest opportunity available today, you will receive the following bonuses worth $2000 dollars, so actually the $599 you are spending is making you money! But this is for a limit number for my favorite internet friends and will be available for only a short time!” Makes you laugh when see it in this light, doesn’t it? But in reality we receive these emotional charged offers daily!
What we need to do is set back and evaluate these opportunities for what they are, do your due diligence. Take your emotions out of the equation as hard as it might be and look at that new opportunity for what it really is. If it is a business opportunity; are you truly interested in this opportunity, or how much money they say you can make, with the “fast start” program? Is this new business something you will enjoy doing? Will the product or service truly benefit your client? Think about these things logically! I know that this can take most of the fun out of the equation, but this is about making a sound business decision not about emotion.
If you are looking at product to help you with your business, you need to use the same fundamentals. First and foremost you must remove your emotions from the purchasing equation. Will the product truly benefit your business? Is there other products that will do the same thing for less? Are you considering buying the product for its value to your business or do you want the value added bonuses? What kind of support is available for the product? Is the 60 day money back guarantee for real?
These are just a few things to consider when making this kind of a decision. My biggest piece of advice is to take your time and keep your emotions as far away from your decision making process as possible. If the opportunity is for a “limited time only”, than more than likely there will be another “limited time only” offer coming your way with yet another new and improved product or opportunity in tomorrow’s email!
I hope you enjoyed this post, if you did please pass it on.
Sincerely

Perseverance?
Posted on13. Apr, 2010 by Douglas Richardson.
Perseverance: the action or condition or an instance of Persevering
Steadfastness: firm in belief, determination, or adherence
I decided to write a post on these two words today, Perseverance and Steadfastness. The reason for this choice is that I believe that in order for us to achieve our goals and desires we must have these two words posted on the walls of our heart. In order to Persevere you must continue to move forward, not at a rapid pace, but at a constant pace. When I think of Perseverance I think of military combat, where the ground forces are slowly and methodically moving forward to accomplish their objective. No F-16 air strikes or bomber missions to open the way, but just small arms fire and ground strategy. Things move slowly and some days there may seem to be no progress at all? I think you can relate?
In the world of Internet Marketing and Social Media, things seem to move at a very rapid pace, so it is easy to become disillusioned. We are bombarded with the latest “Success Formula” that will shoot use to the top in just a few short weeks! When in reality it is the same ideas that we may already know but have not implemented the “new and improved version 2.0” We can so easily become distracted and disillusioned with our own progress, when we compare it to the success of others, and in reality is there success real or hype to buy the latest “Success Formula”? You be the judge.
When I first joined the Tribe Intensive Mastermind Group one of the members said to me after I asked him what kind of results he was seeing? Don Enck, “this is not a sprint this is a marathon!” Well this is not the answer I wanted to hear, but in reality for the majority of use out here this is the truth. We must put one foot in front of the other and continue to move forward with our daily actions in order to achieve our goals. A house built on a strong foundation, is much better than one built on the sand. I would rather be able to look back and see what has been built over time and “Perseverance” rather than something that happens overnight! Now don’t get me wrong, if you are blessed with rapid growth then great for you! It is just something we cannot judge ourselves against.
So what do we need to do to have “Perseverance” and “Steadfastness?” Well let’s consider our options. Number one we must have a plan of action, and we must implement our plan. Take some time to come up with your plan, and then break it down into daily activities that you can accomplish. Make it doable now! Don’t try to accomplish too much at one time, but also make your plan to include tasks that you will have to complete daily. Don’t expect things to happen over night in a short period of time. At the end of every month take some time to review your accomplishments for the month and be proud of what you have accomplished. Keep thinking of this as a battle or marathon not a sprint, things will start slowly. But as your actions “Persevere” you will see significant change in where you were when you started. Remember to compare your actions against yourself not others! I think that if we new how much time and effort people put in to being successful we would be very surprised as to what it takes to get there. The “little things” must be done at every level in order to move forward, and they must be done over and over again in order to see results. From these results you can measure what is working and what is not?
I can say from experience of owning and starting my own business, it is imperative that you know how your business functions from the top to the bottom. This is truly one of the luxuries you have starting an online business, when you begin it is only your time and effort that is being measured. If you don’t people will take advantage of your time and money. So move forward with daily methodical actions that are measurable and you will reach you dreams.

Social Proof
Posted on06. Apr, 2010 by Douglas Richardson.
I was watching a video that my friend Jonathan Budd sent me this morning about affiliate marketing, and how it builds social proof in the internet marketing industry. He also discussed the fact that you need social proof regardless of the industry that you are in.
Well this got me thinking as to where does one get social proof and how do you let other people know that you have something to offer of value to them? I think that many people don’t realize their own social proof, and as to how it can be used to brand ourselves to other people. Often I think we may underestimate our own life experiences as trivial to other peoples, and therefore not realizing the value that we have to offer. Personally I know that I have felt this way.
The other day I was talking to a new friend Glenn Arcaro, and we were discussing several things and one thing that he told me was that I had a lot to offer to people through the many life experiences that I have had. I have owned several of my own businesses, and one was a complete startup. I have managed groups of people, and no what it is like to be at the bottom of the ladder as well as at the top. I know what it is like to go without a paycheck, while building the business. I hadn’t given this much though but after some soul searching I realized that I have more to offer than I thought? I bet that you have many life experiences that you could share with people that you don’t realize the value that can be passed on? This is one of the beauties of having a blog, in order to pass on these valuable life experiences. I plan on using this platform and you should also be taking advantage of this opportunity. Why not share your valuable experiences?
Another way to build you social proof is to get your knowledge and experiences out there; is using social media, by doing this more and more people can become exposed to your valuable content. Tribe Syndication is an excellent way to create social proof. When you have other people syndicating your content, it creates a perception on social acceptability. The more people see your content out on Facebook and Tweeter, to just name two possibilities, the more people see you as a leader. When you create new relationships and share with people ask them for a testimonial, do the same for them.
These are just a few ways we can build our social proof. Please leave a comment as to other ways we can do more to build our personal social proof. I look forward to hearing from you; this is a growing process for all of use.
Sincerely, Douglas

What’s Important To You?
Posted on30. Mar, 2010 by Douglas Richardson.
I think that in many cases we can very easily remove ourselves to what is really important in our lives. For myself I can easily get involved in my Social Media activities and forget what is truly important to me. Things that I at first see as a distraction from what it is I am trying to do, actually are the things that are the most important part of my life. You know the old saying “You can’t take it with you”?
In many cases I believe that our quest for success or happiness can sometimes blend together, where we see our accomplishments as our success and that is not necessary so.
In our world today people that seem to have the most material wealth are the ones that people see as the most successful? We see wealth as happiness and some of the unhappiest people I have ever met were very wealthy. It is like that toy that you wanted so much when you were a child. When you first brought it home you were so happy and excited to have it. But after a short time it was thrown over in the corner with the other toy’s you needed so badly and you were looking for the next toy that was going to be “The One!”
Our world as we know it has been going through some very hard economic time in the last few years. Wall Street executives killing themselves over their lose of finances? But for others I think that there has been an awakening of where their priorities should be. They have come to the realization that having family and friends is much more important than material wealth. None let me say there is nothing wrong with having material wealth; we just need to remember what is truly important?
I was giving my wife a hug the other day and she said to me that, she “felt that she had lost me to my computer, and she missed me” Wow! now that is something to think about huh? I have been working very hard to build my Social Media presences on the internet and it appears not paying attention to the one I love. This I am sure is why this post is coming out of me; I need to get my items of importance in proper perspective. I need to rethink my priorities!
One of the benefits to working from home is just that you can work from home. So for me I can be doing something else and find myself back in my office working on the computer when I just walked out of the room to go to the bathroom, leaving my wife and daughter watching television? Even if that is all we were doing in my mind it is still important for me to have a presence in the room as part of the family. I think that I personally need to be aware of where my presences is needed and wanted; sometime all it takes is to just be there.
I remember when I was a boy; my mother would come to most of my sporting events. My father didn’t come to any of them, he was busy working and to “make money so I could do these things” Well I am 59 now and I still remember this just like it was yesterday. What I am saying here is that what seems important to you at the moment may really not be so?
What I have been doing is taking some time to reflect on what is important and putting it into perspective to others that our important to me. I really think as human beings we don’t do this, we just plow ahead with what we think has the most importance to us personally.
So that is it for today, I hope that you can take away something positive from this as I have just from writing my thoughts down. Please leave a comment; I would like your feedback.
Easter Sunday is coming up this weekend, so remember what has the most importance of all. God Bless
Sincerely, Douglas

Focus-Why You Must Have It!
Posted on23. Mar, 2010 by Douglas Richardson.
As I was reading through my litany of email this morning I realized that the more I become connected in the world of Social Media, the more rabbit trails I have to run down. Now don’t get me wrong Social Media is wonderful thing, but for me it is very easy to loose focus as to what it is I am to be focused on? (I hope that makes sense to you?) Everyday there are new products to look at, there are groups to join; there are webinars to attend, phone calls to make, the list goes on and on. I am sure that this resonates.
When I was a young boy, (BC Before Computers) the experts said that by the year 2000 we would be looking for things to do because technology would be doing everything for us. We would be sedentary and overweight because of lack of exercise. Now that part is not to far off, many people are overweight from their lifestyle, but it is not from a lack of anything to do! Physically maybe, but that is a personal choice that we make, because we would rather set in front of our TV or computer, and let our brain be stimulated.
We have become a society of Instantaneous. If we don’t like what we are watching we switch channels, we go to a new site on the net, we open another email to see what is in it, we send a text message! The list goes on and on, and this is how most of us spend our day, especially if we are social networkers. Little short snippets of information coming and going from us all day and sometimes all night?
What I am saying here is that it is so easy to get caught up in doing nothing, and thinking that we have actually done something, because we have been so busy all day. So what can be done to get us back on track to “Focus?” Let’s look at several ways we can do this, none of these ideas are revolutionary, we just need to put them into practice to get things done
Goals: Is a very important part of productivity, if we do not have a goal that we are trying to achieve, then it becomes very easy to fall into the stimulus trap. If we do not have a goal then there is no directed purpose to our activity. Take some time and write down your short and long term goals. Also decide how you are going to achieve these things.
Create a to do list. This should be a daily list of activities that you want to accomplish. Check the items off as you accomplish them throughout the day. Celebrate your success; any item that you get accomplished is a success. At the end of the day review what is still left on you list and prioritize your list for the next day.
In my opinion an accountability partner is the most important element that you can have to keep you focused. I am not talking about your wife, or girlfriend or boyfriend. This needs to be someone you do not have influence over, someone how will be honest with you without a personal agenda. I belong to a group called the “Tribe Mastermind Intensive Group” we meet every Tuesday to syndicate each others blog posts and discuss and critic each others work. This is what is keeping me focused right now to have this post ready by Tuesday evening. Accountability is a huge factor in focus for me, if I don’t have a deadline or timeline that I must get something done; my focus goes right out the window.
Time blocking is also a great way to stay focused. Block out different times of the day to complete different tasks, and stick with it! Don’t go check you email every five minutes when you are working in another time block, turn you phone off. Leave a voicemail that you will be returning calls between 2-4pm. Stay focused on the task at hand during that time block. This will take sometime, but you can get use to it, talk with anyone how is successful and they use some sort of time management system.
In conclusion take some time and clear your head. Write down your goals and dreams, and make a plan as to how to accomplish these things and put some time lines in place as to when these things need to be done. By doing this you will have an agenda that you can look at and measure your success and failures, and it will be much easier to remain focused. Share this with your accountability partner, and watch how your focus will become so much cleared.
Thanks for your time, please leave any questions or comments that you may have and I will respond asap.
Blessing, Douglas

Tribe Syndication
Posted on16. Mar, 2010 by Douglas Richardson.
THE NEXT BIG THING!
Social Media continues to become more popular all the time; people are spending more time on their computer and smart phones than ever. The amount of commerce that is being purchased online continues to grow, if you are using this medium you are already very aware of this growing trend. You reading this post validates the very fact that people are looking to social media for ways of sharing ideas and learning from each other, ways to increase their presence online.
“Tribe Syndication” is one of the newest tactics to achieve presence in the social media arena. Syndication is described as: “a group of individuals or organizations combined or making a joint effort to undertake some specific duty or carry out specific transactions or negotiations”.
So how does one form a “Tribe” in order to “Syndicate” ones content and ideas? Face Book is an excellent start. Let your friends know that you want to get together a group of like minded people, to share ideas and promote each others content on social media sites. Check out the groups and see if there are groups of like minded people that you would like to share ideas and content with. Tweeter can also be used in the same way, MySpace and LinkedIn, all of these sites have group of people with the same interests.
Once you have formed a group of say five to seven people, then you can begin to “Syndicate” each others content. Form a group call on skype and designate at time when you’re “Tribe” can meet regularly to “Syndicate” each others content and share knowledge to help promote fellow “Tribe” members. This is a wonderful way to develop friendships and learn more about each other on a personal level. Who knows what could come out relationships like this?
By having “Tribe Syndication” one of the greatest benefits is the accountability that is created! When you meet with your “Tribe” you need to be prepared with new content for your fellow members to syndicate. You need a new blog post, and a video to be prepared before each meeting. That way there is always fresh content being spread though your social media networks. And as we all know we love to put things off, this creates a deadline that we must meet in order to be accountable to our fellow “Tribe” members.
My “Tribe” gets together on Tuesday, so hence the name “Tribe Tuesday” we are on the call for about an hour and in that time we “Syndicate” each others content and help each other with technical issues that we are having. You would be surprised as to how you can help each other. You have knowledge that you didn’t even know that you could share just due to the fact that you have experienced an issue and solved it!
If you would like to discuss this concept further? Or have comments, please leave them below and I will be in touch ASAP!

Why Don’t You Have a Tribe?
Posted on15. Mar, 2010 by Douglas Richardson.
This is the question that I would like to propose to you!
Webster’s Dictionary definition of a “Tribe” is: a group of persons having a common character, occupation, or interest.
In other word we all belong to a Tribe if we realize it or not. Sure you do! Do you share a common interest in a sports team? Do you like the same restaurant that others do? What ever you do for an occupation, you share a common interest in getting the job done.
Tribes have been around since man first gathered together in a common cause to make life easier and protect themselves. It is no different today, we just don’t really think of it in these terms.
Ok, so your saying what is this guy up too? Well here’s the thing in this environment that we live in with the tremendous popularity of internet marketing and the many options out there to promote your business, it seems that we stand alone with our online marketing endeavors. Granted that we have many automated technologies that are at our finger tips to champion our cause, yet we are still only one individual in the sea of many.
So this brings us back to the Tribe concept again, by a few working together to promote the common goal of the group we become several individuals working together with a common purpose of syndicating each others content, making it possible for many potential eyes to cross our blogs or websites! Just think of the exposure that could come out of a group of say five to seven people that had a thousand followers on Tweeter and the same on Face Book, and Youtube. Just do the math that is an enormous amount of exposure to a very warm market in an extremely short period of time! Now think of adding more people to your social media lists each week and doing the same thing again. Seems like a good idea huh?
If you have interest in learning more about this concept please comment, and leave your information and we can discuss this concept in more detail.
Give me a call and let’s chat!

PERSONAL BRANDING
Posted on09. Mar, 2010 by Douglas Richardson.
(Why We Must Have It!)
When you think about it Branding is everywhere. We have cloths we wear that are a certain brand; we use a certain type of shampoo because of its brand. We drive a certain car because of its brand; we use a certain computer because of its brand. Then my next question is than why do we seem to neglect the Branding of ourselves? Isn’t that how politicians get elected? By branding themselves to the public as a leader and someone we can trust to represent our interests?
So why should we care about branding ourselves? Well I guess it would depend on if we want to have people follow use or the company or products that we represent. This is a very serious question that we all as entrepreneurs must consider, and something that I believe many people completely overlook. It is very easy to become excited about a company; product or compensation plan and overlook the most important part of the puzzle.
When you look outside of your own opportunity and at the leaders who’s names that come to your mind, do you know what there business opportunity is? I would venture to guess 90% of the time not, we just know how they are and that they are very successful industry leaders. With that said, they it appears have branded themselves as leaders, not as part of a company or product. Hopefully this is beginning to make more sense to you?
Without having a PR staff and a very large budget, what can we do as individuals to brand ourselves? In today’s world we have several options that we can consider. The Internet has to be the most obvious choice, and is what I am going to focus on today. You would not be reading this information if it weren’t for the Internet. The Internet is in my opinion the most powerful tool that a person has at there disposal today. Where can you publish an article that literally millions of potential readers can access?
Let’s take a look at several way’s one could band themselves and create a following of people that will look to you for your advise and leadership.
1. Blogging: Is a wonderful way to share your ideas and knowledge with potentially
millions of readers. Blogging gives you the ability to let people know who and
what you are about, and if they want to create a face to face relationship with you
and or your business, if they choose
2. Video: Is a way for people to see you and start to become more comfortable
about you, with out you meeting face to face. There are many different choices
as to where you can post a video for potentially millions of people to see,
YouTube, Viddler are two of the more popular sites. People are thirsting for
Knowledge on all these sites and you can teach people through the
understanding of their need.
3. Social Media Sites: FaceBook; Tweeter, MySpace, these are three of the more
popular sites. Engage people in social conversation on these sites, join groups
that you have an interest in and ones that will help you to learn. By sharing
your ideas with others you will learn and you will be seen as someone who is
willing to share. This will help your self branding persona.
4. Tribe Syndication: Find several people how are willing to syndicate you’re
Work (Hint All of the Above) by helping each other, your work will be seen by
many more people, which will help to create a social buzz about you and you
will be perceived as a leader!
Here’s the thing if you want to have a Personal Brand you need to let people know who you are and what you stand for. It is really not that hard, you just need to get out there and do it! You have way more knowledge to share than you can even realize, you just need to get involved and see what comes out! If you would like to discuss this topic further, just leave me a comment with your contact information and I will be in touch with you very soon.
